Sapphire’s tale begins at the Texarkana Animal Rescue Center. She got picked up in December of 2010. I was at my Mom’s house cleaning one Friday and was looking through the newspaper while I was on my lunch break. I noticed that the Animal Shelter had posted the ‘Pets of the Week’. There was a cat and a dog. The dog was a Husky/German Shepherd mix. Well, that caught my attention because my two favorite dogs are Huskys and German Shepherds. So right then and there, I decided that I was going to the Shelter after I got done with my Mom’s house. I finished cleaning and headed to the Shelter. I went in, told the lady what dog I wanted to see and went back to the runs where the dogs were kept. When I got to the run that ‘Reese’ was in, I immediately fell in love!! She was so beautiful even though she was skin and bones. While I was looking at her, I noticed that she was the ONLY dog in the run NOT barking. I started petting her and she took to me like nobody’s business. She looked at me like ‘Would you please get me out of here’!? I so wanted to take her home right then, but I knew that I needed to talk to my husband first. I reluctantly went home and slept on it, but the next day, I still couldn’t get her off my mind. I finally told my husband about her so the next day we went back to the Shelter and took her home. My heart was so happy!! We took her to the vet to get her checked out and come to find out, she was already spayed and partly trained. So I worked off what she already knew. From that point on, we were together every chance we got. I didn’t get her registered as an ESA(Emotional Support Animal) until right before she had to be put down because of a quickly growing brain tumor, but she was my ESA her whole life. I was her support just as much as she was mine. Sapphire, you will be immensely missed till the day I die. I love you with all my being. I hope to see you again in heaven. You were the best dog anyone could ever have.
